Senior Researcher, EU Industry Transition is an opportunity at E3G · Full-time · Brussels, Belgium.
This role contributes to E3G's mission to accelerate the decarbonisation and transformation of European industry in line with climate neutrality, competitiveness and resilience.
What you would do
- Conduct research and analysis on EU industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy, initially focusing on the EU ETS, industrial electrification, and funding and investment.
- Develop practical policy recommendations and contribute to political strategies that support the transition of European industry.
- Monitor relevant EU policy and political developments, stakeholder positions and emerging debates, and translate these into timely analysis and recommendations.
- Produce clear, accessible briefings, reports, presentations and other materials for internal and external audiences.
- Engage policymakers, industry, civil society and other stakeholders, and contribute to the delivery of projects, partnerships and coalitions across E3G’s industry portfolio.
- The Senior Researcher will contribute to the EU Industry team’s work to accelerate the decarbonisation and transformation of European industry in line with climate neutrality, competitiveness and resilience.
Eligibility snapshot
Must have
- Three to five years of relevant professional experience, with progressively greater responsibility and a track record of delivering high-quality work.
- A degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant area.
- Knowledge and practical experience in at least one relevant area, such as industrial decarbonisation or industrial policy; the EU ETS or carbon pricing; industrial electrification or energy policy; or EU funding, investment and support instruments.
- A good understanding of EU politics, institutions and policy processes.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to learn quickly, assess evidence and reach well-founded judgements.
- The ability to produce clear, accessible briefings, reports, presentations and other written materials, and to communicate ideas credibly in spoken English.
- Experience engaging external stakeholders and confidence working with policymakers and experts from government, civil society, business, industry and finance.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a focus on delivering agreed outputs, results and outcomes.
Advantageous
- Experience working in or with EU institutions, or within the Brussels policy community, and relevant stakeholder networks.
- Knowledge across more than one of the role’s core policy areas or of industrial sectors such as steel, cement or chemicals.
- Experience supporting partnerships, coalitions, consortia or multi-organisation projects.
- A good working knowledge of another European language.
